Benbrook Texas Bluebirds

It has been a goal of mine to capture photos of a Northern Harrier. I have seen them at Hagerman National Wildlife Refuge and the Ballona Wetlands in California. But I have yet to take a photo that I would be willing to show the public.

A friend of mine told me that he had seen Northern Harriers around the Benbrook Lake area. Though I have seen the Harrier in this area, I am still waiting for that illusive photo.

This spring, my son and I were in the area and we spotted a nesting box attached to the back side of a road sign. I saw a pair of Eastern Bluebirds flying back and forth with nesting material. I set up my car as a blind and waited for the birds to come back and forth. The female would hop from the top of the box and right into the nesting hole. The male like to hover in front of the nesting box and then enter.

I was lucky to be able to capture him as he flew into the nestbox.
