Benbrook Texas Bluebirds

Just about every speed limit sign at North Holiday Park at Benbrook Lake, TX has a nesting box attached on the back side. This past spring and summer, I had the pleasure of photographing Eastern Bluebirds as they came back and forth to their nests.

As I sat watching one nesting box, a car drove up and a couple from the Texas Eastern Bluebird Society came out to check on the box. They even allowed me to see that there were two eggs in the nest. At that time, they informed me that predation had killed off the previous nest.

I made it my goal to not only photograph the birds returning to their nests, but to hopefully get photos of the young chicks being fed.

Unfortunately, after about a month of following these birds, they stopped coming to the box. I had just been there the day before. What happened? Well, I was saddened to see that the box had been cleaned out. Something had eaten the chicks.
