Northern Harrier (Circus hudsonius)
I was lucky to find a lone field in Grayson County, Texas. It is located just south of the Oklahoma/Texas border.
Last year, I was driving by and a Northern Harrier flew right over my car. I almost ran into the ditch!
The Harriers disappeared/migrated around March of 2019 and I've been eagerly awaiting their return.
In November of 2019, I made the trek back to that field and was excited to see the Harriers hunting the field. I used a long row of hay bales to hide me from the Harriers. At one point, one of the Harriers flew right over me and the bales of hay and continued to hunt the field. The first photo below shows the shot I took as the Harrier passed in front of me. I normally don't post "butt shots" but I wanted to share just how close this magnificent raptor had come
